Who is Nicole?

How should I introduce myself? That seems kind of hard lately. Truth is, I don’t relate to just one niche. I don’t feel that one title captures the amazing insanity of my life. So as a way to start the new year, I want to introduce myself and all my beloved niches.

Hi! My name is Nicole. I am a wife to my amazing husband, Luke, who supports me, is my kite string, the calm to my crazy. He is my favorite person to set up weddings with because it feels like a day date and we always follow up a set up with Taco Bell.

I am a mom to 3 crazy kiddos, one of which gives me one of my favorite titles of autism momma. Doing this crazy entrepreneurial journey with 3 kids, 6 and younger is probably not everyone’s cup of tea. I love that they get to see Luke and I build this thing together. They get to watch us go through the highs and lows. They get to learn, first hand, the work ethic it takes to build a business from the ground up (or in my case, basement up).

As a family, we attend Oak Glen UR Church and are so blessed to be a part of such a loving church family. I also have the pleasure of being the head counselor for our youth girls program, which is where I get to let the type A, crafty lady out.

If you would have asked me what my hobbies were prior to 2025, I wouldn’t have had an answer. In 2024, I worked and I liked to drink wine. That was about it. In 2025, I made it a priority to find some hobbies. In that same breath, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t try to make one of these hobbies into a business (seems to be a problem with me there). In 2025, I first discovered my love and appreciation for a good, old fashion word search. Just me, a highlighter and a word search book. I started small because I wanted low commitment and didn’t require a skill per se. Literally, so low commitment that I didn’t even buy a book of word searches first. I printed off a few free ones from the internet. Other hobbies I discovered and fell in love with in 2025 are reading (usually personal development or a good love story), crochet, journaling, puzzles and water color. Truly I love any sort of crafting.

So maybe it is obvious what I do for work, but maybe it isn’t. So I might as well make sure you know. I own Sweet Pea Designs, a full service flower shop and contemporary gift shop that specializes in weddings. I always say Sweet Pea Designs is not your Grandma’s flower shop. We are reinventing what a flower shop can be. Our flower designs are sleek and modern. On the gift side, you won’t find too many nicnacs. We are very intentional about good gifts and we make it a priority that everything we carry would make a great gift to someone. We completed 40 weddings in 2025 and are still booking for 2026 and 2027. We pride ourselves that our couples feel seen and heard throughout the entire process. We do not have preset wedding packages so that we can make every wedding custom to fit the needs of our couple.

Here’s 10 rapid fire facts about me:

I love a good routine. I thrive in them and am always tweaking my routines to make them better.

I grew up in my family’s greenhouse in Grant Park, IL.

My favorite flower is a tulip, because I am a good Dutch girl. However, they are not my favorite to design with.

I don’t really have time to watch TV these days, but my comfort shows are Friends, New Girl and (believe it or not) SpongeBob.

I am a new found tea enthusiast. My current favorite is ginger turmeric.

My favorite food is a toss up between pizza and cheeseburgers.

I am the youngest of 3 and I only have brothers.

I didn’t read or watch Harry Potter until I was 27 and I still need to finish the last few books. I’m sorry, I am just struggling to get through Order of the Phoenix.

My favorite colors are pink and green.

I am an early bird. I typically go to bed at 8:30pm but wake up by 4:30/5am.

That’s me. It's fun to switch things up from time to time and do a reintroduction.

Talk soon,

NK
